Ms. Alkhas’ practice includes:
- Assessing and advising on all labor and employment matters in connection with merger and acquisition transactions, including worker classifications, wage and hour compliance, employment contracts, restrictive covenants, plant closings, mass layoffs and other reductions in force, potential exposure arising out of pending or threatened employment-related litigation, audits, or other proceedings, collective bargaining, labor relations, employment eligibility verification, and all other labor and employment-related issues relating to or arising out of a corporate transaction
- Drafting non-competition, non-solicitation, confidentiality, and other restrictive covenant agreements and counseling regarding compliance with state-by-state non-competition laws
- Preparing employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, transition agreements, separation agreements, and general releases, for both individual and group terminations
- Advising executives and human resources professionals on a daily basis in matters involving equal opportunity practices and policies, pre-employment inquiries, hiring, background checks, exemptions from minimum wage and overtime pay, wage payments and deductions, employee and independent contractor classification, wage and hour practices, record retention, employment eligibility verification, vacation and sick leave, family and medical leave and other time off work, training, accommodations, discipline, and individual and group separations
- Preparing employee handbooks and employment-related policies and procedures, with an eye toward complying with applicable federal, state, and local laws and clarifying and strengthening the employer’s position
- Counseling clients regarding compliance with equal employment, anti-harassment, wage and hour, and deduction statutes and other employment laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the National Labor Relations Act, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, and employment-related state and local laws
